I am waiting on the new Mac Pro, but it kinda sucks that I'm sitting here stuck with half-functional software for the time being.įirst of all, this situation sucks. Their support is terrible, and sometimes I'm not sure if the software even does what it says it does. I just wanted to warn anyone else in this situation, and advise against using Drive Genius. Without automatic scans, the app is pretty much useless to me. I was never given any warning that this version was no longer compatible. They would not send me a link to version 5.2 (no longer listed on their website), nor issue a refund. Their support would not budge and kept telling me "it is compatible." It does not show Yosemite as compatible on their website as it did when I first purchased.

What they neglected to tell me was in this version, Drive Pulse does not work on Yosemite! Manual scans are the only option.
#DRIVE GENIUS 5 INSTALL#
I contacted their support and they had me uninstall version 5.2, and install 5.3. Entering the license and selecting activate did nothing. It would not "open," only pop up with the authorization window to enter the license. Today, my Drive Genius software begin acting strange. I use Drive Genius as it monitors for hard drive errors in the background automatically using a feature called "Drive Pulse." It is important for me to constantly monitor my hard drives, as the studio I work in records audio and edits 7 days a week.

If none of the three fit the bill, let me know what else you are looking to do.I am an audio engineer that still uses a 2009 Mac Pro with Yosemite, as that's the newest OS Pro Tools 11 supports. If you want something a little cheaper and has a few more lights to top off your battery regularly and don't mind too much waiting if you have to charge an empty battery, then something like the Motormaster Precision 1.5A charger when it goes on sale for 20% seems pretty good as it has a couple of nice features like it's built to hold up in freezing temps, has a few indicator lights to tell you what it is doing and has a manual repair/recondition mode which is probably just an equalization charge. Not much in terms of controls or display but seems to do a decent job in topping batteries off and refurbing them. If you want a simple charger to top off your battery regularly (ie like once a month) and don't mind too much waiting if you have to charge an empty battery, then the BatteryMinder 1500 is a good unit. One thing to note and it's a problem with any high current charger is that it dumps power into the battery so for batteries with issues, may not be the best bet. Does the standard smart charging thing where charging happens in phases.

If it's because you always run into empty batteries and you need to get it charged quickly, then you want something with high current output at a decent price like the Schumacher SC1279 which is $35 on Amazon.

The question for you is why are you buying the charger? Unfortunately, there's no one magical charger that works well for everything. Is there something you can recommend? I don't have any inclination towards the Nocos. If the battery is heavily discharged it's better to use a battery charger to avoid stressing the alternator, although the alternator would eventually charge it if you left the vehicle running long enough. It's meant for emergency use, just enough to get the vehicle running so that the alternator can charge it. the GB40 is rated for 1000A) for much shorter times. The jump starters are rated for much higher current (eg.

It can also do desulfation cycles to repair damaged batteries. Since it plugs into the wall you can leave it trickle charging the battery for months at a time to prevent the battery from discharging and damaging itself. 10A by itself is nowhere near enough to start a car.

They slowly provide enough energy over time to fill up the battery and then you can start the car with the full battery. This is a battery charger, not a jump starter. What's the difference between these chargers and the ones you use to boost the car?Ĭan't we just boost the car, and the battery will get charged as we drive, assuming it's not a short 5 min drive obviously
